Electronic Arts has been admitted burglary and theft of data on its website. This incident followed a series of attacks on the gaming company.
As quoted by Reuters on Saturday (06/25/2011), Electronic Arts (EA) acknowledges the user information stolen from their site. This includes birth dates, phone numbers and addresses.
However, EA said no credit card data or social security numbers are stolen in the incident. Also not known who is responsible for this attack.
Genesis on EA following a string of attacks on the gaming company. Beginning with the attack on Sony's PlayStation Network, and then followed companies like Sega and Bethesda.
EA's homepage burglarized at BioWare server in Canada. The site is associated with the game 'Neverwinter Nights'.
"Our investigations show information such as user names, encrypted passwords, email address, mailing address, full name, phone number, CD Keys (for games activation-red) and date of birth from the account on that server may have been exposed," said EA in site.
It is quite alarming from the burglary is when there are users who use a combination of usernames, passwords and / or the same email address on other sites. The information obtained might be used to break into that user's account elsewhere.
